Dance Noir
A Sample of a new composition, live from my hotel gig
I’m back! Lots of projects going on that I look forward to sharing with you. My goal is to post here a couple of times a week.
This is my most recent composition, Dance Noir. It’s in 7/4, which as I mentioned recently, is part of my ongoing exploration of playing in odd meters. I’ve always found that a great way to learn to play something new, is to write a tune that makes me stretch. This tune is definitely a stretch!
Besides being in 7/4 meter, the harmonies are interesting and present a lot of possibilities of interpretation. I will go into that in a future post as I explore this tune more.
I play every week, Wednesday-Friday, at the Westin Poinsett Hotel in Greenville, SC. If you’re ever in the area, come and see me. Besides playing some of my original music, I play standards from the Great American Songbook, tunes by the great Jazz composers, and classic pop tunes.
I’m available to teach online: Keith Davis Music
